River levels are continuing to rise on the River Wye in Powys (Wales) and Herefordshire this morning following heavy overnight rain.

Levels at 9.30am are as follows:

Builth Wells – 3.31 metres

Glasbury – 2.76 metres

Hay-on-Wye – 2.22 metres

Hereford – 1.95 metres

The Environment Agency has issued a Flood Alert on the River Wye in Herefordshire with levels expected to peak later today in Hereford.

“River levels have risen at the Hay-On-Wye river gauge as a result of persistent heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding (of property) is imminent. We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads along the River Wye from Hay on Wye to Ross on Wye. Other locations that may be affected include the A438, Byford, Bredwardine and Hereford. Predicted peaks:- Hay on Wye 2.1m to 2.5m today 29/10, Bredwardine 4.1m to 4.4m this afternoon 29/10, Belmont 4.1m to 4.5m this afternoon 29/10, Old Wye Bridge 3.7m to 4.0m this evening 29/10, Mordiford 3.8m to 4.2m this evening 29/10, Ross on Wye 3.0m to 3.5m Tomorrow 30/10 We expect river levels to remain high over the weekend. We are closely monitoring the situation. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and avoid contact with flood water. This message will be updated this afternoon, 29/10/2021 by 14:00, or as the situation changes.”
