There is a low risk of flooding in Herefordshire, according to the Environment Agency, with a higher risk further west across Wales as heavy rain and strong winds move in from the west today.

Torrential rain and flooding has already occurred in Cumbria, with some areas recording over 300mm (12 inches) of rain in just over 24 hours.

The rain is expected to cause some flooding issues in Wales and other parts of Western and South-West England, but no real significant flooding is expected.

The Met Office warning for Wales says:

“Persistent and at times heavy rainfall, already affecting northwest Wales at the start of this period, is expected to spread southeastwards through Thursday before clearing on Friday. 40-60mm could fall quite widely within the warning area, but over 100mm is probable in a few spots, most likely over northwest Wales/Snowdonia. Heavier bursts are likely to be more isolated across south Wales, but where they do occur 40-60mm is possible in a 6-9 hour period.”

Levels on the River Wye and other local rivers are expected to rise as a result of the heavy rain in Wales, but at present no significant flooding is expected.
