A resident has issued a plea to members of the public, after a number of Chinese lanterns ended up in a field near Ludlow.
In a post on social media, the local resident said:
“Unfortunately I’m having to write this post.
“Last night around 30 Chinese lanterns were set off from a party or celebration in Caynham, Ludlow.
“I watched them coming towards our House and thought how irresponsible it was especially when the ground was so dry.
“My children found three in our field of cattle and we have also spotted two more in a neighbours field of wheat.
“Next time think before you let anything like this off. It could have set fire to the wheat or the cattle could have tried to eat them.
“Shropshire Council has banned the release of sky lanterns, also known as Chinese lanterns, on all land it owns.
“This decision was made to protect the environment and wildlife, as these lanterns can cause fires and harm animals.
“You may not have been setting them off from council ground but you dont know where they will land.
“These lanterns only travelled 0.5 miles but could easily travel further.
“Sky lanterns should be banned altogether.”
