A ‘Reclaim these Streets’ march is set to take place in Hereford later this month, with organisers saying that the issue of violence and sexual offences against women is at the heart of the decision to organise this event.

Protests and vigils have taken place across the United Kingdom over recent nights, with several arrests made in London yesterday evening after a large number of people gathered in Clapham Common to mark their respects following the death of Sarah Everard, who was murdered when walking home from a friends house. A serving Met Police officer has since been charged with Sarah’s murder.

Police officers clashed with those protesting, with hundreds turning up despite the request for the vigil to be cancelled due to the current COVID-19 pandemic.

The organisers say that the event in Hereford will have social distancing and that those taking part will be asked to wear masks to limit the risk of COVID-19.

The group are currently planning to march on Monday 29th March. Current COVID-19 rules state that protests aren’t allowed but the organisers say that it is their right to protest. More details are expected to be released shortly.

West Mercia Police and Herefordshire Council are expected to be informed of the details of the planned march.
