A popular ‘dogging spot’ is temporarily closed for maintenance work to take place with new drainage and a wall being installed.
The work is being carried out on the Barrow Wake View point car park, just off the A417 in Gloucestershire, as part of the ‘Missing Link’ project.
A spokesperson for National Highways said:
“We’re building a new dry-stone wall and installing drainage tanks under the carriageway at Barrow Wake viewpoint.
“To allow us to complete the work safely, we needed to close Barrow Wake viewpoint car park from Monday 22 July 2024 until March 2025. Local businesses will remain open as normal.
“Once complete, the new wall will stop the glare from vehicle lights across the escarpment, with the new tanks forming part of the carriageway drainage.
“Anyone wishing to visit the local area can use alternative parking options including Crickley Hill (which has a £2 parking charge).”
Police have previously described the spot as a place that they ‘regularly receive reports of lewd acts, intimidation, littering and other aspects of anti-social behaviour.’
