PC Ian Minett, aged 38, tragically collapsed and died on 21 June while he was working on night duty for Gloucestershire Constabulary.
His family has released the following statement: “From a very young age it was Ian’s ambition to become a police officer. He joined Gloucestershire Constabulary as a Special Constable in March 2006 and served with them for 13 years.
“He was working as a Cheltenham and Tewkesbury Local Policing Constable when he tragically and suddenly passed away, despite the gallant efforts of his colleagues on B shift nights and the ambulance paramedics.
“We, as Ian’s parents, and family, are all very proud of his achievements within the police force. We take consolation in the fact that Ian died performing the job he loved, in the town he loved, and that he was well loved and respected by all who knew him and worked with him.
“Ian, we were privileged to have had you as our son, and we will keep your memories alive in our hearts and minds forever. PC 255080 we salute you.”
Ian joined Gloucestershire Constabulary as a Special Constable in March 2006 and served with them for 13 years, leaving in September 2019.
He took up a position as a call handler in the Force Control Room at Thames Valley Police in April 2016, leaving in January 2019.
Ian then joined the Ministry of Defence Police in January 2019 and was based at the Atomic Weapons Research Establishment in Reading. Upon leaving this position in February 2022, he transferred back to Gloucestershire Constabulary in March 2022.
Ian was first posted to the Local Policing Investigation Hub in July 2022 until he was posted back to Cheltenham and Tewkesbury as a local Policing Constable. He continued to serve there until he died.
