West Mercia Police have issued an urgent alert to all Hereford residents following a string of suspicious incidents in the city and surrounding areas.

A spokesperson for Hereford Rural North (West Mercia Police) said:

LWe have been receiving reports of suspicious incidents across our local policing area.

“A young woman, identifying herself as “Anna” and claiming to be deaf, has been knocking on doors asking for money. This could be under false pretences.

“The description of the female is: White female, approximately 20 years old, wearing a dark beanie and a red anorak, approximately 5ft 1 and of average build.

“The individual alleges that she needs funds for family support and college fees, offering to draw in exchange for cash.

“This serves as a reminder to remain vigilant and cautious when approached by strangers seeking financial assistance.”

Here are some tips to protect yourself:

Verify Identities: Always ask for identification or contact the organisation directly to confirm legitimacy.

Trust Your Instincts: If something feels off, it probably is. Listen to your gut and proceed with caution.

Safeguard Personal Information: Refrain from sharing sensitive details with unfamiliar individuals.

Report Suspicious Activity, this can be done online or via 101.

Avoid Inviting Strangers Into Your Home: Never invite unfamiliar individuals into your house especially when solicited for money.

Keep interactions outside and maintain a safe distance to protect yourself and your property and don’t leave the door open and unattended.
