Police have issued an important message to anyone visiting the Elan Valley area near Rhayader over the coming weeks.

From Dyfed-Powys Police:

Over the past few weeks, Radnorshire Neighbourhood Policing and Prevention Team has seen an increase in visitors, specifically those using 4X4 vehicles, quad bikes and motorcycles in the Elan Valley area. 

This a Site of Special Scientific Interest (S.S.S.I) area with many ground nesting birds at this time of the year. 

If you are member of these groups, you are welcome to use the green lanes and byways responsibly. 

What is not tolerated are drivers not adhering to the laws of the permitted byways, causing damage to common land and rivers or showing disregard to the landscape of our community.  

Police are investigating reports of criminal damage at the Rhayader Golf course and common land at Pont yr Elan area and looking to take legal action against those involved.

ADVICE: If you are attending the Elan Valley and surrounding areas, please make yourself aware of where you are and are not permitted to drive/ ride. No excuses.
