From Gloucestershire Police:

Investigating officers are appealing for witnesses after two people died following a collision on the A38 at Norton on Wednesday 25 August.

Police were called to the Tewkesbury Road in Norton near Gloucester shortly after 9.55pm with a report of a collision involving a green BMW estate which was travelling toward Gloucester and a blue Ford Fiesta which was travelling toward Coombe Hill.

The driver of the BMW estate, a 20-year-old man from the Gloucester area, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger from the Ford Fiesta, a 79-year-old woman from the Tewkesbury area, also sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Ford Fiesta, an 81-year-old woman who is also from Tewkesbury, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol where she remains.

The next of kin for those involved have been informed.

A man from a third vehicle, aged in his 20s and from Gloucester, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is in police custody.

A road closure was put in place between the Coombe Hill traffic lights before being lifted at around 5am today.

Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the collision. They would like to hear from anyone who has not already been spoken to who may have witnessed what happened or who saw two dark-coloured BMWs being driven on the A38 and prior to the collision.

Anyone who has dashcam footage of the collision or any footage that they may feel may be relevant is also asked to get in contact.
