West Mercia Police have issued an appeal after heating oil was stolen from a village near Hereford.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said:

“We would like to make you aware that we have had a theft of heating oil from a property in Withington. It is likely to have happened within the last month.

“Unfortunately following a recent spike in crude oil prices the cost of heating oil has also increased, leading to an increase in theft offences involving heating oil.

“We are seeing an increase in reports relating to thefts from tanks at properties and commercial premises in rural locations.

Often your first sign that your tank has been attacked is often when the heating stops working. You may assume there is a fault in your system and an engineer will then diagnose the problem as being that there’s no oil left!
