West Mercia Police officers have issued an alert this morning after a number of vans in the Hereford area are reported to have had wheels stolen.
A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said:
“Over the last week there have been a few reports relating to thefts of wheels from Transit vans in the area of Holme Lacy Road
“A report from ZOOMM UNIT 5, HOLME LACY ROAD HEREFORD states that at 20:11 on 2nd Dec an unknown male has removed wheels from a transit van, male was wearing a mid-length coat and left the scene in a pick-up truck – 00086_I_02122021
“An incident at Taylor Lane Timber Frame Ltd , thorn Business Park reports that an unknown male wearing high-vis clothing was caught on CCTV by the van at 19:05hrs and left the scene driving a vehicle with cheverons on the rear – incident number 00622_I_06122021
“There was also an incident at MILLENIUM GLASS, HOLME LACY ROAD where the rear wheel was stolen and the wheel nuts were left in situ, this occurred between 17:00 and 06:10hrs – incident no: 00085_I_07122021
“Any information relating to these incidents, please call a member of the team and quote the incident number
“Plan your parking, consider CCTV and home/business security.
“Parking your van in a well-lit area where a lot of people can see it will make opportunistic thieves think twice. Park it in clear view of a CCTV camera system, and even more-methodical criminals may reconsider their plans.
“Some savvy van owners also take advantage of modern wireless security systems. As well as standalone wireless alarms, you can install wireless cameras and contact sensors on your van can be linked up to your house/business alarm whenever the van is parked nearby.”
