It’s more than 24 hours since a number of hand grenades were pulled from a canal in Worcestershire and West Mercia Police are continuing to warn the public to keep their distance if they are seen and to call police immediately on 999.
From West Mercia Police:
“We’re releasing a picture of two grenades, that had been left on the bank and have since been safely detonated, to show how they could go unnoticed if they’ve been discarded in undergrowth.
“The potentially dangerous hand grenades were discovered by a man who was magnet fishing in the canal on Lea End Lane in Hopwood at around this time on Friday evening.
“Whilst two were left behind, witnesses believe they saw the man leave the area with another five.
“Our officers remain in the Hopwood and Alvechurch area to gather information from the community and to remind people that, should they see the items, to keep their distance and immediately call 999.
“We continue to urge the man that found the grenades to contact us so that they can be safely recovered.
“He may not be aware of the significant safety risk they pose.”
