An area of Leominster was cordoned off and evacuated on Saturday, following the discovery of a toy grenade.

Police were called after a member of the public spotted what they thought was a grenade in the Leominster Priory Graveyard.

The area was then cordoned off as a precaution, with a bomb disposal team called to the area.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said:

“On Saturday 15 of June 2024  we were called to an incident at Leominster Priory graveyard where there was a suspected grenade.

“We cordoned off the area while we waited for specialist bomb disposal team to come down to the scene.

“This time it was only a toy grenade. Better to be safe than sorry.”
