A local parish council has issued a warning after the attempted theft of dogs in two Herefordshire villages.
Ewyas Harold Parish Council issued the following update earlier today:
Parish Council Message
“There have been attempts in the Much Birch and How Caple area to snatch dogs from gardens. This is becoming quite a common crime nationally. Apparently the perpetrators locally are tying a piece of string on the fence or gate or marking the ground with black paint where there is a property with a dog that could be tempted close enough and then snatched. Please let others know that this is happening locally.”
This follows a message from a member of the public in the Waterfield Road area of Hereford yesterday evening.
Raich posted on the Live Hereford Chat Room saying:
“I was walking my dog down Waterfield Road about an hour ago and a white van pulled up alongside us.
“Two men asked the age and name of my dog, they seemed friendly enough but just seemed odd as they asked if I was local (I told them I wasn’t and just visiting a friend) and once I explained he was an older dog and was deaf they drove off!
“I have reported it to 101 but just to give people a heads up with everything that’s going on!”
People should remember that dog theft is extremely rare, but if you are the victim of dog theft or notice suspicious activity, please contact West Mercia Police on 101.
