The owners of Wenlock Edge Farm Shop have shared a short statement on their Facebook page following a devastating fire overnight.

“We are so sorry and saddened to announce that last night we had a fire.

“Due to the intensity of the flames nothing was salvageable and we currently have no business premises.

“Many, many thanks to the numerous County Fire Crews that arrived very quickly and to our neighbours, friends, families and customers for their support.

“We are planning to rebuild but it may take a while. We will be back.”

Fire crews were called to a large fire at a farm shop and local butchers in the early hours of this morning.

From Church Stretton Fire Station (Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service):

“Church Stretton Firefighters were called to a large fire in the early hours of this morning at 3am, with Wenlock Edge Farm shop and local butchers on fire but no persons involved.

“On arrival the whole building was on fire so we were put into action from the start and it was about a couple of hours before we could get it under control.

“Assisted by crews from Much Wenlock Fire Station, Craven Arms Fire Station, Bridgnorth Fire Station, Shrewsbury and Telford who all played a vital roll in the operation where 4 jets were used to extinguish and 24 BA sets were rotated throughout the incident.

“Crews will remain at the scene through most of day damping down any hot spots remaining.

“Fire investigation will attend later to find the exact cause of ignition.”
