An outline planning permission application has been submitted by the Hereford Islamic Society for a multi-cultural community centre in the centre of Hereford.

The site would be on a brownfield site off Canal Road in the city.

An outline planning application has already been submitted for the land to be used as a temporary car park, whilst this planning application is being considered.

A pre-planning advice application was previously submitted by the client which identified a number of issues to be fully addressed.

Given the potential time scales and costs involved this application seeks to establish in principal the acceptability of development to meet the needs of the local community.

The Hereford Islamic Society has been looking at a number of sites for a potential community centre for some time.

This current application seeks to obtain outline approval with only a nominal position indicated for the building. The site benefits from two means of access, one of Canal Road and the other off Conningsby Street. The former is owned by the applicant and the latter provides full rights of access.

The proposed multi-cultural community centre seeks to meet an identified need in Hereford and all other suitable land that has been available has been pursued. The application is from a registered charity.

Its setting is completely consistent with adjacent uses and will be dealt with sensitively and respectfully at the detailed planning stage, subject of course to an outline approval.

The proposed building will be substantially single storey with possibly a minor element of two storey development.

A drawing is included but only providing precedent images.

A detailed design and the accommodation will be subject to a detailed or reserved matters application.
