Sainsbury’s has announced the opening date for its brand-new supermarket in Rocks Green, Ludlow. The retailer is delighted to be able to confirm that Sainsbury’s Ludlow will open its doors to customers on 30th November 2021, giving customers plenty of time to stock up on food, grocery and general merchandise products ahead of Christmas.

Sainsbury’s has committed to investing £1 billion over the next 20 years to become a net zero business by 2040 at the latest, and it has taken this opportunity to also unveil a range of sustainable features that will be included in the new store. It will be the most energy-efficient supermarket of its size that Sainsbury’s has ever opened, using 30% less energy than a similar-sized store would have three years ago.

The Ludlow supermarket will use only natural refrigerants and will not be reliant on fossil fuels, as well as using ‘demand-controlled ventilation’, which reduces the amount of heating and electricity required to maintain the store’s temperature and airflow. It will also feature the latest technology in refrigeration, along with a bee hotel and Electric Vehicle Charging Points in the car park. A proportion of the charging points have been specifically designed to allow greater space and maneuverability, making them more accessible to disabled customers and others who need it.

In total, the arrival of new supermarket is creating around 150 new jobs for local people, across a range of roles and levels. Sainsbury’s is continuing to recruit new store colleagues, and still encourages any local residents that are interested in opportunities at the new store to keep an eye on the roles available on its dedicated jobs website: www.sainsburys.jobs.

Sainsbury’s Property Director, Patrick Dunne, said: “I’m very excited to be able to announce the opening of Sainsbury’s Ludlow for the residents of the town, and I’m really looking forward to welcoming customers through its doors for the first time on the 30th of November. Our new supermarket  will lead the way in sustainable development by featuring a wide range of measures that ensure it’s fighting fit for the future.”
