A number of fire crews were called to a fire at a property in Hereford overnight.

The incident occurred on Aylestone Hill. The road was closed for a number of hours.

West Mercia Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service also attended the incident.

A spokesperson for Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue told Your Herefordshire:

“Six Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews – two from Hereford and one each from Fownhope, Peterchurch, Ledbury and Leominster Fire Stations – plus the aerial ladder platform from Worcester and incident support vehicles from Malvern and Tenbury were called at 20:56 on 13 April to a house fire with persons reported at a flat on Aylestone Hill, Hereford.

“A fire in the loft space of a three-storey block of flats was extinguished by four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using a 13.5m ladder, two hosereel jets and a main jet. Cutting away and salvage operations were carried out and a thermal imaging camera was used to check the area.

“Utilities were isolated and Aylestone Hill closed in both directions.

“All persons were accounted for but police and ambulance both attended.

“Crews left the scene at 02:14 but a reinspection took place at 06:00 before the incident was closed at 06:59.”

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service told Your Herefordshire:

“A passing by ambulance came across a fire on Aylestone Hill in Hereford at 9.18pm on Sunday.

“We also sent a second ambulance to the scene. Crews found one man who they assessed for the possible effects of smoke inhalation before he was discharged at the scene with self-care advice.

“There were no further patients.”
