COVID-19 infection rates continue to rise in Herefordshire, with Herefordshire Council taking to social media to remind residents to take measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
A number of schools in Herefordshire have asked staff and students to wear masks, including in lessons at some schools, with a number of other measures also reintroduced.
The Hereford South West (Hunderton, The Oval, Newton Farm etc) area currently has the highest COVID-19 infection rate in England, according to data for the seven day period ending 24th September. During that period, 141 new cases were recorded in the Hereford South West area, an increase of 135% on the previous week which means that the infection rate was 1,704 cases per 100,000 population. The highest infection rate recorded in Herefordshire since the start of the pandemic.

The majority of the cases are being recorded in the 10-14 year-old age group, with approximately 1 in 24 children in this age group testing positive for COVID-19 in Herefordshire in the seven day period ending 24th September.
Fortunately at present, only a small number of cases are being recorded in those aged 65 and over in Herefordshire and with COVID-19 boosters now being rolled out to those aged 50 and over, it’s hoped that this should keep hospitalisations at a manageable level in comparison to the start of the year when over 100 patients were being treated at Hereford County Hospital (Wye Valley NHS Trust).
In Herefordshire, 87.2% of adults aged 16 and over have received a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. In total 82.2% of those aged 16 and over have now received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
