Millions of people across England will see the price they pay for prescriptions rise from today (1st April). The price of NHS over the counter medication will rise from £9.15 to £9.35 today.

The cost for those that pay annually will also go up, by £2.20 from £105.90 last year to £108.10 this year.

The government had been pressured by several groups to freeze the prescription charge at £9.15 but decided against it. Several groups have raised concerns that by 2025, people in England could be paying over £10 for a prescription.

It has been suggested in the past that the NHS could save millions by scrapping prescriptions for people with long term health conditions.
