Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has revealed that the NHS App will be used as a COVID-19 passport for travel abroad, with countries on the UK’s ‘green list’ set to be revealed in the coming weeks.
Mr Shapps confirmed in an interview with Sky News this morning that the app will allow people in Britain to demonstrate whether they’ve had the COVID-19 vaccine or whether they have tested negative for the virus prior to travelling abroad.
There have been rumours over recent days that countries such as Greece and Portugal could be set to welcome back holidaymakers from the United Kingdom, with authorities in Greece announcing earlier this week that a COVID passport system would be in place.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock will lead a COVID-19 Press Briefing later this afternoon from Downing Street to update the public on the latest COVID-19 information and news.
