Latest data released by Public Health England has revealed that nearly 1 in 25 children aged 10-14 years-old tested positive for COVID-19 last week in Herefordshire.

Data shows that in the seven days ending 23rd September, the COVID-19 infection rate in those aged between 10-14 years-old was 3,966 cases per 100,000 population. By far the highest infection rate seen in any age group in Herefordshire since the start of the pandemic.

Schools across Herefordshire have started to bring in extra measures to limit the spread, with John Kyrle one of many schools that has taken the decision to reintroduce the wearing of masks.

Infection rates remain a concern throughout the county, particularly in the following areas where rates are considered ‘very high’. (Infection rate for the seven days ending 23rd September)

Lugwardine, Withington & Moreton on Lugg – 64 new cases (Infection rate of 805.3 cases per 100,000 population)

Hereford East – 52 new cases (Infection rate of 874.7 cases per 100,000 population)

Hereford South – 113 new cases (Infection rate of 1,155 cases per 100,000 population)

Hereford South West – 130 new cases (Infection rate of 1,571 cases per 100,000 population)

Belmont, Madley & Clehonger – 64 new cases (Infection rate of 934.2 cases per 100,000 population)
