National Highways will be carrying out work to maintain the drainage system on the M50 Eastbound and Westbound between junction 4 and the M5 Junction.
This work is being carried out following the recurrence of flooding along the route.
The work will include cleaning, repairs and removing vegetation from the drainage system. The completed work will improve drainage and will continue to provide a safer carriageway for road users.
They’ll work overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from 28 July 2025 to 2 April 2026, Monday to Friday. To carry out their work safely we’ll work under a combination of lane closures and full closures. Please plan ahead and allow additional time for your journey.
The full closures will be carried out under the following phases:
Thursday 14 August to Tuesday 19 August 2025 – Full closure Westbound from M5 Junction 8 to M50 Junction 2.
Wednesday 20 August to Wednesday 27 August 2025 – Full closure Eastbound between M50 Junction 2 and M5 Junction 8 (excluding bank holiday on Monday 25 August)
Thursday 28 August to Tuesday 2 September 2025 – Full closure Westbound between M50 Junction 2 and M50 Junction 4.
Friday 3 September to Monday 8 September 2025 – Full closure Eastbound between M50 Junction 4 and M50 Junction 2.
Monday 20 October to Friday 14 November 2025 – Full closure Westbound between M50 junction 2 and M50 Junction 4.
Monday 17 November to Wednesday 11 December 2025 – Full closure Eastbound between M50 junction 4 and M50 Junction 2.
Wednesday 11 December to Thursday 22 January 2026 – Full closure Westbound between M50 Junction 1 and M50 Junction 2.
Thursday 22 January to Thursday 19 February 2026 – Full closure Eastbound between M50 Junction 2 and M50 Junction 1.
Thursday 19 February to Thursday 26 February 2026 – Full closure Westbound between M5 junction 8 and M50 Junction 1.
Thursday 26 February to Thursday 5 March 2026 – Full closure Eastbound between M50 junction 1 to M5 Junction 8.
Contingency dates have been scheduled between 5 March and 2 April 2026 to complete any outstanding work, should unforeseen circumstances arise.
