Health Secretary Matt Hancock has refused to rule out the possibility of a second national lockdown being introduced, as the government urges the public to adhere to new guidelines aimed at reducing the risk of a second wave of Coronavirus.

Matt Hancock said, “Our goal is to avoid having to do anything more drastic – I won’t make a vow like that. I’m a Health Secretary in the middle of a pandemic.”

“We have seen an increase in demand including from people who are not eligible for tests, people who don’t have symptoms,” he said.

“You are eligible for a test if you have symptoms of Coronavirus or if you have a very specific reason otherwise.

“We have seen an increase, and about 25% of people who are coming forward don’t have symptoms and aren’t eligible.”
