Retailer Marks & Spencer has this morning announced that it will be making over 7,000 job cuts over the next few months, as part of a shake up in response to the challenges faced following the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

Clothing sales are believed to be one of the areas of the business that are continuing to struggle and the cuts will come in additions to 950 job cuts that had already been announced.

A spokesperson for the company said: “It is clear that there has been a material shift in trade and whilst it is too early to predict with precision where a new post COVID sales mix will settle, we must act now to reflect this change.”

The job cuts are expected to affect the companies head office, as well as customer assistants in stores across the United Kingdom.
