Meet Sarah Rosser, Erin Goodwin, Steph Morley and Wendy Griffiths, – four Macmillan professionals who have been settling into their new Macmillan roles within the cancer focussed Allied Health Professional (AHP) team at Wye Valley NHS Trust.
Cancer and its various treatments are associated with a wide range of physical and psychological symptoms, and it has been demonstrated that these adverse effects can be reduced through targeted rehabilitation.
Macmillan Cancer Support has funded the new AHP team to offer patients personalised care and support in Herefordshire for the next two years. The team will be involved throughout a patient’s cancer journey and is made up of a physiotherapist (Steph), an occupational therapist (Wendy) and dietitians (Sarah and Erin).
The team told us: “As a new team, we are hoping to provide patients with the support, tools and care they need to better manage side effects of cancer and cancer treatment, reduce loss of function and improve resilience.
“As well as ensuring all patients have access to dietary, physical and psychological support, we are highly trained to offer specialist care to those with complex and specific needs.
“We are very excited to be offering this brand-new service and being able to work with Macmillan to do so. We look forward to keeping you updated as the service develops and our roles progress.”
Macmillan Partnership Manager, Tudor Humphreys said: “Macmillan has invested over £300,000 to fund this fantastic new Macmillan Integrated Therapies team at Wye Valley NHS Trust for the next two years, so that people living with cancer in Herefordshire can turn to Macmillan and receive vital specialist personalised help, care and support.”
