West Mercia Police, West Midlands Ambulance Service and Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service have spent the afternoon at Backney Bridge on the River Wye near Ross-on-Wye after a body was discovered there this morning.

Emergency services were called just before 11am to the riverside after reports that a body had been seen in the river. Sadly it quickly became apparent to paramedics that nothing could be done to save the person.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service told Your Herefordshire:

“We were called by the fire service at 10.41am this morning following reports of a person in the River Wye near Backney Bridge, Ross on Wye.

“An ambulance, paramedic officer, community first responder and HART paramedics attended.

“Sadly, it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save the person and they were confirmed deceased on scene.”

West Mercia Police, who also attended the incident, issued the following short update:

“We were called to the River Wye in Neatherton at around 10.10am this morning (Thursday 10 March) following reports of a body being discovered by the river.

“Officers remain at the scene, and as this is an ongoing incident it would be inappropriate for us to comment further at this time.”

A further update is expected later today or tomorrow.
