Public consultation launched to seek views on proposed improvements in South Wye area for walkers and cyclists
Improvements are planned for walking and cycling routes in the South Wye area to encourage more people to cycle or walk to work at the Hereford Enterprise Zone, to travel to school and for travelling around the area generally.
The improvements will include changes to the layout of Holme Lacy Road and quieter routes in the area that make it easier to cycle or walk, offering a practical alternative to travelling by car for shorter journeys.
Everyone who lives, works and travels through the Holme Lacy Road / South Wye area is being asked for their views on the improvement proposals, which will be used to help inform the final detailed designs for each scheme.
More details about each of the schemes can be found on the council website www.herefordshire.gov.uk/consultations
This information will also be on display at the Shell Store, Skylon Park, from 4pm on Wednesday 10 August 2022, then weekdays 9am-5pm until 31 August.
If you have any questions, please email Laurence.butterworth@herefordshire.gov.uk, or you can come to the Shell Store on Thursday 10 August, where there will be a presentation at 5.30pm, and someone will be available to speak with you in person until 7.30pm.
The consultation will close on Wednesday 31 August 2022.
Cllr John Harrington, Cabinet member transport and infrastructure said:“Walking and cycling is a good choice for residents in our City and suburbs but we need to make those routes easy to use, clearly demarked and segregated and protected from obstructions like illegal parking. We also need to make sure the routes we put in or revisit from now on are complaint to national standards like LTN 1/20, where cyclists are separated from traffic and pedestrians from cyclists wherever possible”.
“If we are going to encourage people to walk or cycle for journeys around Hereford – for work, shopping or pleasure, we need to make it an easy option.
“This consultation is an opportunity for people who live, work or travel in the South Wye and Hereford Enterprise Zone area to have a say on what would improve their experience of walking and cycling locally. If you regularly travel there, what would make it easier for you to cross a particular road or junction? Which areas need better signage? Where is it difficult to cycle? We need this local insight to help with the final designs, please let us know – we are going to spend more and more on walking and cycling routes in the future and we need to get it right for you. Thank you in advance for your time.”
