Important advice for all runners taking part in St Michael’s Hospice Run Hereford event today.
From Marches Ambulance Service:
IMPORTANT MEDICAL ADVICE – St Michael’s Hospice – Hereford RUN Hereford!
With today’s 5k, 10k, and half marathon through Hereford city centre and a warm, sunny forecast on the cards, here’s some essential advice to help you stay safe and perform at your best:
- Drink plenty of water so you’re well hydrated at the start line.
- Don’t overdo it in the morning – Sip water or a sports drink before the race, but avoid guzzling large amounts right before you run to prevent stomach upset.
- Dress for the weather – Lightweight, light-coloured, breathable kit is your friend. Don’t forget sun cream, a cap or visor, and sunglasses if you have them.
- Listen to your body – Feeling dizzy, nauseous, crampy or confused? Stop, get into the shade, and seek help from the medical team or marshals. Heat exhaustion is no joke.
- Enjoy it safely – Pace yourself, especially if it’s warmer than you’re used to. This is a community event, not the Olympics!
Let’s make this a fantastic day for everyone – stay safe, hydrate well, and most importantly, have fun!
