A number of horses were removed from danger following a fire in Herefordshire on Monday evening.

The fire occurred in the Pow Green area, near Ledbury.

Four Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews were called to the incident. Those crews were from Leominster, Bromyard, Ledbury and Malvern.

A spokesperson for Leominster Fire Station said:

“Last night, our water carrier was out helping at a large, single story outhouse building that was fully alight on arrival.

“527 helped by providing water supply to the fire ground. Crews worked hard to get on top of this incident, cooling acetylene cylinders that were involved in the fire whilst dealing with other flammable substances present.

“Nearby horses were also moved from any potential hazards by our Animal Rescue colleagues from Bromyard Fire Station.

“Our water carrier can bring a vital 8,000 litres of water to rural incidents like this, where the nearest water hydrant was nearly 1km away from the fire.”
