Herefordshire’s COVID-19 infection rate is declining and the number of cases being recorded in school aged children in the county is falling at a steady rate.

In the seven day period ending 4th October, Herefordshire recorded a total of 948 new cases. This is a decrease of 26.6% on the previous seven day period when a total of 1,292 new cases were recorded.

Only one area of the county now has a very high COVID-19 infection rate and even here, infection rates are falling at a rapid rate. The Hereford South West area (Hunderton, Oval and Newton Farm) currently has a COVID-19 infection rate of 894.3 cases per 100,000 population. However, this is down by 47.5% on the previous seven day period when the COVID-19 infection rate was 1,704 cases per 100,000 population.

The main factor behind the fall in infection rate is the decrease in the number of children testing positive for COVID-19. For example, in the seven day period ending 27th September, approximately 1 in 22 children aged 10-14 years-old tested positive for the virus in that week. In comparison, in the seven day period ending 4th October, this fell to approximately 1 in 34 children testing positive.
