A Herefordshire school is closed on Thursday due to the flooding situation in the county.

Westfield School in Leominster announced this afternoon that it has taken the decision on the basis of pupil safety due to rising river and flood levels in the county.

A post shared on the Herefordshire Council Schools page said:

“We have taken the precaution of remaining closed on Thursday 4th January following the unpredictability of river levels today.

“It is unknown how many staff could safely access school in advance, in addition to the possible repeat of this afternoon’s rapid rise in levels, which would put pupils at risk were they to be in school.

“We anticipate opening on Friday 5th January, but please check in advance.”
