Herefordshire Council have confirmed that they have made an offer to the Home Office to resettle 56 Afghan refugees by Christmas 2021, with an aim of resettling more than 125 refugees in the long term.
Pressure has been applied to local council’s since the recent refugee crisis in Afghanistan to ensure they support the government by resettling as many refugees as possible.
A spokesperson for Herefordshire Council told Your Herefordshire:
“In June 2020, Herefordshire Council made a commitment to resettle at least 125 refugees in Herefordshire by 2025.
“Last week we made an offer to the Home Office to take up to 56 Afghan refugees before Christmas in the first phase of our resettlement offer. We will be resettling more people over time with a view to reaching and exceeding our offer of 125 refugees.”
