Lynhales Hall Nursing Home in Lyonshall held their annual ‘Memory Walk’ on 18th September in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society, during Alzheimer’s Awareness Month. The charitable fundraiser unites residents, families, and staff members, many of whom are impacted by Dementia, to walk the home’s scenic one mile driveway of trees and ponds.
Thirty attended on the warm Sunday morning, raising £130 in donations and raffle sales. All residents successfully walked the driveway, with some residents making their return by wheelchair or minibus. The walkway was marked with decorative flags, banners, and signs, some of which were created by residents at the home’s Arts and Crafts Club. Upon their return, the Kitchen Team supplied a selection of hot and cold drinks, sausage casseroles and a buffet lunch before unveiling the raffle winners.
Lifestyle Coordinator, Mary Ayles, said:
“Our residents did so well on the day, waving their flags as they encouraged each other. Many of our residents are living with Dementia, so it’s a fantastic achievement for those that completed the walk. It is special to see residents reunited with their family members, especially for such a great cause.”
