Emergency services were called to the River Wye in Hereford after reports that a person had entered the water on New Year’s Eve.
A spokesperson for Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service told Your Herefordshire:
“Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews from Hereford and Ross-on-Wye plus the Service drone from Ledbury were called at 23:51 on 31 December to a rescue from water at Belvedere Lane, Hereford.
“There were report of a person in the river and a sweep of the river was carried out by boat and on foot. A police helicopter searched the river from Hereford to Hampton Bishop while the fire service and HART team drones were used to identify cleared areas of the river bank.
“After a multi-agency meeting with police and ambulance, based on current intelligence, river conditions and time lapsed since the original call, the search for the casualty was halted. The incident was marked as close at 02:39.”
A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service added the following:
“We were called at 11:54pm on New Year’s Eve to reports of a patient in the water at the junction of Mill Street and Nelson Street in Hereford. We sent several resources including the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), two ambulances, and two paramedic officers. Once crews arrived at the scene, they carried out extensive searches alongside emergency service colleagues. However, no patient was found and we were stood down from the scene.”
