Volunteers have shared their anger and frustration after several saplings (young trees, especially ones with a slender trunk) were uprooted and snapped.
Park volunteer Kevan Gilbert commented on Facebook saying:
Numerous (about 15 – 20) saplings have been uprooted or snapped off. Last week a beautiful horse chestnut tree, grown and donated to Aylestone Park by a young child, was cut off at it’s base. This weekend another wonderful horse chestnut tree, again grown and donated by a child – a different family, has been pulled up and discarded.”
Despite this, volunteers continue to plough hours into keeping the park maintained and looking beautiful for the thousands of people that visit it on a weekly basis.
