The free parking incentive that was put in place by Herefordshire Council, to encourage people to support their local high street, is due to end next Friday (24th July).

A campaign, set up by Your Herefordshire, and backed by local business leaders, saw Herefordshire Council offer free parking in all its car parks across the county, with the Old Market in Hereford, owned by British Land, also joining in.

The response has been good, with Hereford Business Improvement District (Hereford BID), reporting an increase in visitors to Hereford and many businesses from across the market towns saying that it has had a positive impact.

Some people have stated that they have however struggled to get a space due to workers using all the parking spaces in the centre of towns, especially in Hereford.

Your Herefordshire is looking forward to hearing what Herefordshire Council is looking to bring in as its next incentive. We are led to believe that the council will not just switch the parking charges back to what they were prior to lockdown. We believe that a four stage return to normal charges should occur, with the plan to get charges back to a ‘normal’ level at some point in 2021.
