Former Hereford United player Adam Musial has sadly passed away today in his native Poland at the age of 71.
Adam joined Hereford in 1980 from Arka Gydnia. Former chairman Peter Hill told us how the signing of Adam was unique.
“We went over to Poland with Henry Nield and Frank Lord. I negotiated a deal, the club didn’t want any money, they wanted a plough for their stadium. Probably the only time a player was bought for the cost of a plough.”
Adam was part of the Polish team who knocked England out of the 1974 World Cup qualifying stages. This was the game where goalkeeper Jan Tomaszewski performed heroics at Wembley.
Poland would finish in 3rd place in the 1974 World Cup
Adam stayed at Edgar Street until 1983, and played against Leicester City in the FA Cup 4th round tie in 1982 where Hereford were defeated 1-0.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family.
