AFC Telford have revealed on their Twitter page the passing of former Hereford United goalkeeper Kevin Charlton aged 66.

Charlton was signed by John Sillett in the Summer of 1975 from AFC Bournemouth, and was part of the most successful Hereford United team of all time. The 1975/1976 squad would win promotion to what is now the Championship, and Charlton made 35 league appearances that season.

During the 1976/1977 season Charlton shared goalkeeping duties with Tommy Hughes, but sadly Hereford were relegated.

Charlton played only one game in the 1977/1978 season, as he decided to step away from the professional game and join non league Bangor City

Charlton later joined Telford United and won the FA Trophy on two occasions. Despite being only 5ft 9 he was a fine shot stopper.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family.
