A small number of flood alerts have been issued on rivers in Herefordshire, following torrential rain that hit the county on Christmas Day.
Flood alert for River Arrow in Herefordshire
“River levels have risen at the Titley Mill river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding of property, roads and farmland is expected Today. We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads along the River Arrow from Michaelchurch to Brierley. Other areas that may be affected include Kington, Staunton and Eardisland. We expect river levels to remain high over the next few days. We are closely monitoring the situation. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and avoid contact with flood water. This message will be updated tomorrow morning 27/12/2021 by 09:00, or as the situation changes.”
Flood alert for River Frome in Herefordshire
“River levels have risen at the Bishops Frome and Yarkhill river gauge as a result of persistent heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is possible this morning, Sunday 26/12/21. We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads along the River Frome from Bromyard to Hereford. Other locations that may be affected include Bishops Frome and Yarkhill. Further rainfall is forecast over the next few days. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking defences. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded. This message will be updated by 09:00 am on Monday 27/12/21, or as the situation changes.”
Flood alert for Upper Teme
“River levels are rising at the Onibury and Ludlow (Corve) river gauges as a result of persistent heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is possible today, Sunday 26/12/21. We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads adjacent the River Teme, River Onny and River Corve and their tributaries. Locations that may be affected include Bishops Castle, Church Stretton, Knighton and Ludlow. Predicted peaks:- Onibury 1.8m to 2m this morning Sunday 26/12/21; Corve 2.3m to 2.5m this morning Sunday 26/12/21. Further rainfall is forecast over the next few days. We expect river levels to remain high today, Sunday 26/12/21. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking defences. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.
