A flood alert has been issued on the River Wye in Herefordshire, following heavy rain overnight.

The Environment Agency has released the following:

“River levels have risen at the Hay-On-Wye river gauge as a result of persistent heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding (of property) is imminent. We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads along the River Wye from Hay on Wye to Ross on Wye. Other locations that may be affected include the A438, Byford, Bredwardine and Hereford. Predicted peaks:- Hay on Wye 2.1m to 2.5m today 29/10, Bredwardine 4.1m to 4.4m this afternoon 29/10, Belmont 4.1m to 4.5m this afternoon 29/10, Old Wye Bridge 3.7m to 4.0m this evening 29/10, Mordiford 3.8m to 4.2m this evening 29/10, Ross on Wye 3.0m to 3.5m Tomorrow 30/10 We expect river levels to remain high over the weekend. We are closely monitoring the situation. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and avoid contact with flood water. This message will be updated this afternoon, 29/10/2021 by 14:00, or as the situation changes.”

A flood alert has also been issued on the River Arrow, with the Environment Agency predicting the following:

“River levels have risen at the Titley Mill river gauge as a result of persistent heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding (of property) is imminent. We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads along the River Arrow from Michaelchurch to Brierley. Other areas that may be affected include Kington, Staunton and Eardisland. We expect river levels to remain high over the weekend. We are closely monitoring the situation. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and avoid contact with flood water. This message will be updated this afternoon,this afternoon 29/10/2021, or as the situation changes.”
