A flood alert has been issued for areas such as Bodenham, Hampton Bishop and Lugwardine as levels on the River Lugg respond to heavy rainfall.

A flood alert is in place on the River Lugg, south of Leominster, with further heavy rain expected to fall on Thursday.

An update from the Environment Agency said:

“River levels are high but steady at the Lugwardine river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is possible today, 23/11/22.

“We expect flooding to affect Low lying land and roads adjacent to the River Lugg south of Leominster from Stoke Prior to Mordiford.

“Other locations that may be affected include Bodenham, Lugwardine and Hampton Bishop. Flooding of properties is not forecast at this point. Further light rainfall is forecast over the next 48 hours.

“We expect river levels to remain high in the coming days. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking defences and liaising with emergency services. Please plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded and call 999 if in immediate danger.

“This message will be updated by 4pm on 23/11/22, or as the situation changes.”
