Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews from Bromyard and Leominster performed an incredible rescue yesterday morning after a cow and a calf ended up in a river.
A spokesperson for Bromyard Fire Station said:
“Fire Crews from Leominster and Large Animal Rescue Team from Bromyard were call to assist a farmer to get a cow and calf out of the river yesterday morning.
“The two had gone down a steep sided embankment and were unable to get back out. Crews dressed in water rescue PPE entered the water up stream from the animal using a triple extension ladder to get down into the water and from this point they were able to place long strops around both animals.
“Richy the vet from Knighton gave both of them some light sedation before they were pulled from the water using the farmers tractor. Once out of the water both were place in his stock trailer.”
