Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews from Peterchurch Fire Station, Ewyas Harold Fire Station and Eardisley Fire Station were called to a house fire in the Michaelchurch area of the county on Wednesday evening.

They were supported by crews from over the border in Powys.

A spokesperson for Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (Peterchurch Fire Station) said:

“At 10.15pm on Wednesday, both the rescue pump and water carrier were called to a house fire persons reported near to Michaelchurch.

“On arrival we found a well developed fire and two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were sent inside with a hose reel to extinguish the fire. All persons were accounted for and we were supported by colleagues from across Herefordshire and Powys, including Ewyas Harold Fire Station, Hay-on-Wye Fire Station, Talgarth Fire Station and Eardisley Fire Station.

“Crews worked tirelessly to shuttle water to the incident ground from hydrants around the area but unfortunately much of the roof was destroyed.

“After fuelling up we returned to station for sunrise as we handed over to other crews to monitor and damp down any hot spots.”
