Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews from Leominster, Hereford and Kingsland were called to a fire in the open in the Westhope area yesterday evening.

A spokesperson for Leominster Fire Station said:

“At 1831 last night, our water carrier was mobilised (along with Kingsland fire station and Hereford Fire Station) to a fire in the open in the Westhope area. A bonfire was lit at the bottom of a sloped area of grassland approx 100m x 75m, as shown in the picture.

“Our water carrier, 527, carries 8,000 litres of water to supply to a fire ground where a source of water isn’t readily available or is hard to reach.

“With conditions still so dry, lighting fires in the open like this doesn’t take long for it to get out of control and isn’t advised.”
