Fire crews across Wales are tackling several grass fires, with members of the public urged to only call 999 if there is an immediate risk to life or property.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and Mid & West Wales Fire and Rescue Service are both working around the clock to put fires out.
A spokesperson for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said:
“Our Control Centre is currently receiving a high number of calls relating to grass fires.
“If your life or property are in immediate danger from a wildfire, please call 999 right away.
“For updates on ongoing incidents, check our social media channels to see if our crews are already responding to the fire.
“By doing this, you help us avoid overwhelming our control room operators with repeat calls, allowing them to manage resources effectively and assist those in urgent need.
“Thank you for your support!”
Bob Harris (Councillor for Treorchy in South Wales) said on Thursday evening:
“Update regarding Mountain Fire above Treorchy.
“I have spoken with a Fire Service representative and been assured there is no immediate danger to human life or property.
“During darkness it is very dangerous for crews to be on the steep mountainside risking their lives and therefore the plan is for a crew to monitor the fires progress and movement towards the fire breaker lines which will hopefully see the fire distinguish itself naturally.
“If anyone has any information regarding how this fire may have started, please come forward and share the information in total confidence.
“It’s unfair to continue to ask our dedicated firefighters to risk their lives fighting these mountain fires …. they have families too!”
A statement shared by Mid & West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said:
“Our Control Room Operators are currently dealing with an extremely high number of calls relating to grass fires.
“Please only call 999 if your life or property is in immediate danger.
