Energy regulator Ofgem has announced a £693 increase in the energy price cap that will come into effect from April.

The 54% increase will be a concern to more than 20 million households in the United Kingdom, with the government expected to announce details later of the support it plans to give to struggling households.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak will host a press conference at 5pm this evening.

Standard tariff customers will now pay £1,971 a year. A huge increase that is likely to cause major issues for millions of people and businesses.
