The Department for Education is today expected to release guidance to schools across the country about what should happen if The Queen’s funeral lands on a weekday.

Schools will remain open as normal today (Friday).

The Department for Education will confirm that all school children will be able to participate in a National Day of Mourning, with reports yesterday evening that the funeral of The Queen could be set to take place on Monday 19th September. This is yet to be confirmed. Should the funeral fall on a weekend, it is expected that the Monday would still become a public holiday, to give people the opportunity to mark the day.

Businesses aren’t expected to be told they have to close, but the majority of those that find themselves in non-essential employment are expected to be given the day off.

Further procedures for both educational settings and businesses will be announced as early as today and Your Herefordshire will continue to keep you up to date.
