The Debenhams department store at Old Market Hereford will close its doors for the final time tomorrow, when the closing down sale comes to an end.
The first floor shopping area has already been closed, with a small number of items remaining for sale on the ground floor of the store.
The Debenhams brand was sold to Boohoo for £55m back in January. Online retailers Boohoo then decided to keep the company trading but online only and therefore that signalled the end of high street stores for this famous company.
The Hereford store opened in 2014, as one of the anchor stores on the Old Market development. The store did have a restaurant, but a decision was taken to close this prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The closure will be a huge blow to Hereford city centre, with Debenhams attracting customers from the wider area. It is hoped that the unit will be taken by another retailer soon. The former Debenhams unit in Worcester will soon become a food hall, hosting a variety of food pop ups and restaurants.
