COVID-19 infection rates are falling across the majority of Herefordshire, but there are still a small number of areas that are recording an increase in the number of cases.
Overall in Herefordshire, in the seven day period ending 18th January, a total of 1,657 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the county. This represents a fall of 11.4% on the previous seven day period. This gave a COVID-19 infection rate of 855.8 cases per 100,000 population.
This is fantastic news and reason to be positive, but cases are still sharply rising in two areas of the county. In Leominster, cases are up by 15.9% in Leominster South (1,152 cases per 100,000 population) and 62.3% in Leominster North (1,420 cases per 100,000 population). It’s a similar picture in Ledbury where infections have risen by 36.1% in the previous seven day period, giving a COVID-19 infection rate of 990.5 cases per 100,000 population.
Some further good news is that latest data released by NHS England shows that the number of patients with COVID-19 at hospitals in Herefordshire is falling. Data shows that on the 18th January, a total of 36 patients were reported as having COVID-19 at hospitals in Herefordshire (Wye Valley NHS Trust). This is down by ten from the previous week when 46 patients were recorded as having COVID-19 at hospitals in the county. Despite an increase in patients with COVID-19 at hospitals in Herefordshire in January 2022, no patient has needed ventilation for COVID-19 since 2nd January.
